There are a lot of newbies, who would like to take care of their customers themselves. Problem is most of the issues that can be solved by an experienced person in 10 minutes will take an hour or more for a non-technical person. This will leave a bad impression for a startup hosting company.
And then along comes someone else. Amazon, and their attractive EC2 services. I discovered EC2 late one night while surfing the internet. We spoke. And I was so enamored that I wrote about them in a blog on this very website only a few weeks ago. EC2 seemed like an easy and affordable way for a small company to take their business into the cloud. "No more in-house servers." I reported. "No more managed it services. No more Windows headaches. 100% access all the time. From anywhere." Admittedly, I was smitten.
But now the time has come to think something about the rising salary of the employees in India. Foreign countries used to come to India as they found the lower labor rate in the country. But the recent survey taken place by NASSCOM suggests that the average pay scale of the employees has increased between 16 and 18%. This is really very serious matter. Because rise in the pay scale would make MNCs to search for some other overseas destinations. So the country should take some steps towards this trend. Outsourcing firms are now falling prey to mounting pay scale costs for specialized skills and talents and the requirement to constantly tech support I.T reward exercises to the market continues.
It's important to celebrate each victory, each sale, every follow-up you didn't want to do (but did it anyway) and most of all, every time you stepped out of your comfort zone. I have been following a mentor who had huge numbers attached to her programs and mine were much less. Initially I felt I'd failed Managed I.T support uttah and I found myself looking at the situation very negatively. When in fact I had generated more business in that month than previous month, and had served more people. My lesson was to celebrate my own victories both big and small. Too many times we look outside ourselves to what others are doing and if we don't live up then we feel "less" than. Who's served by that?
All kidding aside, using a service like Oovoo is stupidly simple. You setup an account for yourself. Then you're listed in the Oovoo community as available - others can click on your listing and request to be connected. But your video doesn't have to be with another Oovoo member. You can just send an email with a link to your invitee. He clicks on the link and right away he's seeing you through his computer's browser. If he's got a video camera on his computer you're seeing him too.
At the very least, you'll find leads that you can investigate. Sometimes the very first one will do the trick! If the first one doesn't fix the problem, go back to the results page and try another lead. Many, many times I have been able to figure out the problem this way, and it's extremely satisfying, not to mention way faster than the alternatives.
